History of Western Culture

Last night I attended my first class on the History of Western Tradition.  When I signed up for the class i hadn't realized that it was going to be one long diatribe denouncing European culture, had I known I probably would have taken something else.

What frightens me is that this is being taught in K-12 schools.  I'm old enought to know better than to take the word of a self-hating, white guilt proffessor, but my little brother's not...  What happened to facts? Written documents detailing history? When did a history class be come a pulpit?

Maybe I'm just naive, it's probably been going on for longer than I know.  What I do know is that kids learning this crap in school today don't have any point of reference from which do draw the correct conclusions.

Open Political Discourse

Why is it that every politcial discussion lately degenerates into name calling?  Whether that discussion is on TV, in a chat room, or on a bulletin board?  Do people not understand that name calling and general nastiness get nothing accomplished?

I am used to these debate tactics from the Left, it's all they have to use ( God knows they abandonded logic a long time ago ).  What disturbs me is that I am seeing the same tactic from a number of people claiming to be on the Right.  Has the Right sunk to these methods?  When did America stop having coherent political discussion?

This makes me very sad...

Why Jaywalking Signals the Decline of America

The first jaywalking ticket ever issued was a death knell for America.  This ticket signaled the end of the autonomous citizen.  By upholding jaywalking tickets the government is effectively saying "you can't cross the street without us, you don't have the wherewithal to look both ways or make good decisions."  How did we come to this? At what point did we stop being the fiercly independent citizens that created America? Do we really feel that crossing the street has gotten so dangerous that we can't do it without government interference?
We as American citizens have allowed this sort of incumbrance for too long.  It's high time we stepped up and said "I can do it for myself, I don't need your help.  It's time I stood on my own two feet."  This asserting of our competency applies to far more than just crossing the street.  It applies to every aspect of our country that the government currently controls without our input.  Education, taxes, immigration, entertainment...  The list is long and distinguished.
We can't keep following this path.  We either stand up and regain the power afforded our citizens under the Constitution, or we end up in an America where our government controls every aspect of our lives.
